Christmas in Austin found us sitting around a table with friends and a giant pot of soup. "Autumn Harvest Stew" to be more precise. This recipe came from this amazing cookbook: which Billie bought for me for xmas. BEST GIFT EVER. I cant wait to make more of them. Anyway, soup, salad, some amazing tofu, a little boozin' and good company made for one of my favorite holidays ever.
here's a photo of the deliciousness to make your mouth water
and of course, the gang (minus some key members), and then some were here...
In other news, there's a rumor that SG founder Leif Valin will be in town in a matter of days. Hopefully we will have the first official Soup Gang meeting of the Austin meets Colorado Chapter.
and one more thing...in the next week, i WILL be getting parsely tattooed on my leg...since i wasn't kidding when i said it was the king of all ingredients.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS from the kids who were doing soup before soup was cool.

Soup Gangster ass Potato Corn Chowder
Following Meghans Post. the Plain Street Soup Posse put together a Roasted Red and Pablano pepper verion of the Potato Corn Chowder...
Served With Collard greens and biscuits, it was NICE!
Ingredients included teh obvious, as well as a dash of Maple syrup, some vegtable bullion, garlic, leeks, carrots and a ton of other veggies. Use a motorized handblender, as well as a ski mask helped with the chowder effect. While making the Soup, Zuess, the white english bull terrier, ate raw biscuits off the table....

Vegan Potato Corn Chowder, Experiment #1
Wednesday November 29, in Austin, Texas:
Billie and Meghan used a recipe and made vegan potato corn chowder. It was sort of an experiment, really. The recipe ended up being a bit on the bland side, but with a little faux chicken stock, some parsley (the king of all ingredients) and some hot sauce, it was pretty delish. Stew Johnson ate it...but we all know stew+anyfood=happy.
I think the move next time is to add: roasted corn (instead of frozen), roasted red peppers (instead of raw), and some poblano peppers.
Yesterday it was 64 degrees in nyc and 42 in austin.
Happy Souping...Texas Freezes.
PS: soup gang now has a myspace page as well.

No rules home fried potato/ vegetable soup....
Sunday night consisted of a couple bike rides, one to the local food Co-op, where organic ingredients were purchased, in order to make this kick ass medley of awesomeness. Marble rye was the soups sidekick. Ingredients are listed in one of the pics, but as far as a recipe, it was straight freestyle, and spiced the same way.
troubles are easier to take with soup, than without....
This tattoo is possibly the most gangster soup tattoo I have ever seen.(maybe the only one?). Meghan is clearly a dedicated soupster, she even posted a recipe from the other day in the comments part of the first actual Blog....
At any rate, the Holiday took some time away from souping it up, but we should have some nice pics this week, and possibly some recipes, so keep posted...maybe even a bowl pic or 2.

Soup Gang Progress report
This is the first semi unofficial report on the happenings of the Soup Gang. The Gangs current motto- "Kill the bad, eat the good..." Leif Valin has inspired much of what is about to become a randomly updated Blog about Soup, and what not. Last Nights soup was Roasted red pepper, and Pumpkin, with coconut milk, jalepeno's, ginger and so on... In the true spirit of a classic dinner it was served with cornbread, that was peppered with green onions. All homemade of course. Soup Bowl Pic provided bt Mandy Beem-Miller....
