down for the cause...

Brian Miller, formerly of Chicago, now part of the Austin Soup Gang, took his soup gangsterism to a whole new level this past week at the Star of Texas Tattoo Convention.

Brian's artwork and tattoo by Zack Kinsey, of Minneapolis.

Check out Zack's website here, he rocks!

Official SG Meeting #2: Ithaca meets ATX

souper_heros_by_hallman
With first generation soup gangster Steve Crandall in town, it was necessary that we have an ithaca meets austin soup gang meeting.

Since Stew and Crandall were making their way back from some trip to west texas, I was in charge of said meeting.

I might have gotten a little crazy as i do when events happen at my house,

but besides the soup having a few too many noodles, everything went off without a hitch. a good time and full bellies were had by all (or so i hope).

the menu consisted of Italian Pasta and Bean Soup, accompanied by rustic italian bread with roasted garlic, toasted ravioli and spinach salad.

Driving along Interstate 10 west of Houston, limited budget, a can of no chicken noodle" soup by Amy's. a p-38 can opener on hand, and a town of about 1000, and there I am, a solo soup party at a truck stop.

News from the Midwest...

My good friend and soup-lover Nic Alarcon sent me a posting from Chicago today. He used to live in Austin and our pot-lucks and soup parties just aren't the same without him.

He says:

sick+cold+broke=creamy potato soup
chicago sucks right now.

THANKS NIC! and i hope the cold weather doesn't get to you!

If anyone has anything they want to contribute, please contact me or crandall and we will get on it!

In other news, i got a sprig of parsley tattooed on my leg. pictures soon!
god it feels good to be a gangsta.

Official Business

While Alexis was rockin' the lentil soup in ithaca, there was an official Soup Gang meeting in Austin. With founder, Leif Valin in town...we went all out.
you know it!

Billie and I shopped and cooked all day, pretty much. She made some Egyptian Lentil
egyptian lentil
and I made some Chickpea Tahini soup with baby portobellas from a recipe in that awesome cookbook (see older posting). We also heated up some Minestrone that Billie had made before. Accompanying the soups was a green salad (with the most amazing vegan caesar dressing ever), a kick-ass pasta salad by Billie and some amazing breads we bought at whole foods. And for desert, vegan peanut butter cookies with chocolate or jam. equipment

A special shout-out to Taj for bringing a 12 pack of Coca-cola, most of which he consumed throughout the duration of the meeting (i exaggerate for effect).
my dog loves the boys

Full on Soup Gangster action took place with the following people in attendance: Billie and myself, Leif, Corrigan, Joe, Sandy, Jen, Taj, Stew, Hallman and at least a couple dogs.
unbeknownst to them, they will get jumped in later.

The business side of the gang is in the works. Don't you worry about that! Possibly more pictures to come when Leif sends me his!

a balancing act
